Lapidaus is an Australian private and independent lapidary studio based in Melbourne Victoria, which specialises in gem-cutting. Operated by Ivan Bullock, it transforms rough gems to jewelry or display-ready specimens through the use of hand-operated vintage faceting equipment, traditional cabbing hardware, simple rotary tumblers and other shaping and carving tools. We also clean specimen-grade material, crystal clusters, and re-cut / polish vintage stones.

Lapidaus focuses on fossicking, cutting and finishing legally and ethically sourced untreated Australian stones, many of which are hand-mined by us and collected from sites both public and private around QLD, NSW and VIC, or purchased through a network of friendly gem dealers, mine owners and other lapidary organisations.

Our studio was established in Canberra in 2018 after receiving training at the Canberra Lapidary Club, and has since relocated to the western suburbs of Melbourne.
